The National Assessment of Education Progress (NAEP) is the primary source used to report student performance data for the nation and specific geographic regions of the country and to produce The Nation’s Report Card.
The NAEP mathematics and science frameworks are developed under the direction of the National Assessment Governing Board. This chapter provides background information on experiences with state NAEP and the reporting of district-level NAEP results.
The first section describes some of the concerns expressed during the early implementation stages of state NAEP, discusses findings from initial evaluations of the program, and highlights their relationship to district-level reporting. The NAEP science content used in this study is shown in detail in chapter two on science content from the science assessment and item specifica-tions for the NAEP.
The New Mexico documents used in this review were the New Mexico science assessment frame-work for grades 3–9 and grade 11 (New Mexico. During the 16th and 17th centuries, modern science developed in Europe but it lagged behind in Mexico. The new ideas developed in science in Europe were not important in Mexico.
