One of the most controversial Korean directors, Kim Ki-duk is a self-taught filmmaker who prides himself on his outsider status, openly setting himself apart from contemporaries like Hong Sang-soo and Lee Chang-dong, who he considers too intellectual. Kim's films have drawn vitriol for their subject matter and praise for their technique, and he has often been compared to his predecessor. “Kim decided to retreat into an interior world where he does not need to confront or take but where his time can be sucked up by shitting in fields, smoking fish, getting drunk, and singing.” During the period between and , the South Korean director Kim Ki-duk produced a grand total of fifteen films.

M ore than any other Korean director, the films and reputation of Kim Ki-duk have been characterized by a sense of disconnect. Kim himself disavows any commonalities with other Korean filmmakers of his generation such as Hong Sang-soo or Lee Chang-dong, due to his lower-class upbringing and lack of formal training in film.   Kim Ki-duk: "Moebius" Addeddate Identifier Moebius_ Scanner Internet Archive HTML5 Uploader plus-circle Add Review. comment.
